Egan Warming Center

During the winter of 2008, Major Thomas Egan, who was a homeless veteran, froze to death because he could find no shelter for a night with temperatures below freezing. Due to this tragedy, Lane County has opened “warming centers” in several locations for those nights when the temperature dips below 30o F. They rely almost exclusively on unpaid hosts. Hosts provide awake supervision at the sites.
